When the inept questions

The preempt

There was pandemonium all over the place when representatives of an elected government raised a few questions on the nuances of how the city council was executing their operations on the ground. There were allegations made targeting a community which was evident to see. While I would not like to get into the details of this episode as it has been there in the media for quite some time, setting it aside and concentrating at the work at hand might backfire later.

Why did the drama unfolded at the war room of Covid operations? The MP, accompanied by few MLAs of his ilk, fully equipped with a WhatsApp message and a camera stormed the scene. Why did it have to be done in that manner? Why could he not use his chain of command to raise these questions? Or if the excuse is that the city council is an independent body, why was the judiciary not engaged in raising these questions? 

Ingredients of the Cocktail:

While we ponder over these questions, everyone seemed to have ignored the threat issued by the elected representative which I presume will come into full swing once the dust settles. The ingredients of the cocktail right now is that, on one hand, we have a government which has absolved itself from the responsibility of the current situation while on the other we have several organizations which has picked up that responsibility and is working in full swing to contain the damage. We have NGOs, political parties like Aam Aadmi Party having their own helplines and trying to reach out to needy people affected by the pandemic sourcing out help ranging from food to oximeters. Old age care for people whose families are hospitalized and making available foster homes for kids whose parents are hospitalized. The list is endless.

The Threat

The elected representative in his statement has mentioned that a high level commission will be established for enquiry. As cases decline I would not be surprised if the high level commission actually corners all the entities that had engaged in firefighting the situation. The government would then have the advantage of attributing the blame of the current mess onto these entities which has actually minimized the impact of this inept government. In all, one can say that the escape route for the government has been clearly laid down by the elected representative.
